What is KETO 2.0?

Now there is a lot of buzzing about KETO 2.0 in the health field, and we are excited to write the key points of it for you. So, what’s different here, or is it even that different from other variations of the ketogenic diet?

Keto ratio

Macros on KETO 2.0 are 50% fat, 30% protein, and 20% carbs, while on the traditional keto diet, macronutrients are usually 75% fat, 20% protein, and only 5% carbs. Sidenote: American Dietary Guidelines 2020-2025 recommend consuming 45-65% of daily calories in carbs.

Here we see that KETO. 2.0 has lower fats and proteins and higher carbs. What else?

Fats

KETO 2.0 guides to use of plant fats instead of animal fats. This means that you replace butter with olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish.

Protein

This “new” spin on the ketogenic diet has significant differences with proteins, meaning you don’t eat meat but take all of the protein from fish and vegetables. Sounds like pescatarian, doesn’t it? Our article about keto without the meat.

Carbohydrates

The biggest difference is the higher amount of daily carbs. KETO 2.0. recommends as much as 20% of daily calories to be carbohydrates.

Is it possible to get to ketosis if you consume this much carbs? It’s personal how much carbs one can consume and maintain ketosis. It’s easier if you have done the traditional keto diet before you try KETO 2.0. But even then, higher daily carbs are too much for some.

Summary

KETO 2.0 is very similar to Mediterranean keto but with more flexible carbs. It emphasizes more vegetables, fish instead of meat, and plant-based fats. It may offer a welcome change if traditional and more strict keto feels hard to keep up. But if ketosis is the thing you aim for, you need to follow up on your ketones to make sure you stay on track.

For us, Keto 2.0 seems a little artificial and offers nothing new. People have been doing different variations of the ketogenic diet for a long now, and this is one way to do it. A good method to consider, but the amount of carbs is way too high in our opinion.
